Redesigning a Board Management App
Location:

Team:
1 Product Manager, 2 Product Designers, 3 Software Engineers, 1 UI Developer, and a Design Manager
Role:
Product Designer

The Product
Most board portals require users to download multiple applications for planning and management. This product would allow boards to become more efficient and effective by combining strategic planning and board management with agenda building, minute taking, and voting.
Research
Learned about the product by talking directly to users when moderating user interviews.
Did competitive analysis to get complete picture on what other products were on the market.
Met with stakeholders to discuss problems to solve, priorities, and strategy.
Worked with the other designer to make sure that the board management part of the product that I was working had the same look and feel as the strategic planning part of the product that they were working on.
Accomplishments
Redesigned 4 major features of the product using Sketch and InVision.
Pitched and designed a brand new, but much needed feature to stakeholders.
Identified areas of opportunity to gain competitive edge in market.
Testing
Moderated A/B testing to ensure intuitive design.
Conducted guerrilla testing since under time constraints to get new features implemented.
Challenges
After designing and testing, I started working alongside the developers to get the designs implemented. A UI Designer was brought in to work on visuals and create a pattern library for the product, so changes had to be made for consistency. The developers were already working on the original visual design, so I talked to them to see how much could be changed. I made as many minor changes as I could to reflect the new visuals but made sure that it was nothing that would slow down the developers since they were so far along.
Skills Used
Creating Wireframes using Sketch.
Building Prototypes using InVision.
Guerilla Testing.
Moderating Both User Interviews and A/B Testing.
Competitive Analysis.
Tools included Sketch, Adobe XD, HotJar, and InVision.
Conclusion
I am proud to have contributed so much to the team during my time on this project. I researched and talked to users, giving me a better understanding of user needs and the product. I redesigned 4 major features, and pitched and designed a brand new feature to be implemented within the product. I was also able to moderate testing and iterate on designs based on results and feedback. One of the benefits of working for a startup and being a part of such small team is that you get to really have your voice heard and contribute to the company.
